Description
The weeping fig grows as an evergreen tree featuring smooth light gray bark and gracefully sweeping branches. The glossy leaves feature an acuminate apex, an elongated drip tip that serves as an evolutionary adaptation to shed heavy monsoon rain quickly and prevent fungal growth on the foliage. Damaged stems release a milky latex sap that acts as a natural chemical defense against herbivores and insects. Its tiny flowers develop entirely enclosed within syconia, specialized round, hollow receptacles that hide the blooms inside.
