Description
Calathea orbifolia grows as a rosette plant, sending up its foliage from a subterranean rhizome, typical of herbaceous understory species. The broadly oval leaves, reaching 12-16 inches (30-40 cm) across, are a natural adaptation to capture minimal light on the forest floor. The surface of each leaf blade displays a pattern of alternating silver-gray and dark green bands radiating from the central vein.
